Changing Lives in Developing Nations
Our mission
Academics without Borders USA (AWB USA) is a non-profit organization founded in 2014. Our mission is to assist colleges and universities in developing countries, in their efforts to increase their capacity to produce engineers, doctors, nurses, teachers and other professionals.
AWB USA brings together volunteer domestic academic talent with deans and professors at institutions of higher education in developing countries to address a need identified by the host institution.

What we do
AWB USA invites institutions to submit a proposal to fulfill a technical and/or academic need. If approved, we match the project with expertise from among USA volunteers to work together with the in-country institutional team.
Academic volunteers are at the heart of AWB USA, representing a wide variety of backgrounds and experiences.

Projects We Support
Projects vary from helping to set-up new initiatives to expansion or enhancement of existing programs. They often begin with virtual planning sessions followed by a site visit. Duration of site visits ranges from one to six weeks.
Letters of intent are accepted at any time, reviewed on a rolling basis, and funded based on approval of full proposal and availability of funds.

Project Funding
AWB USA reimburses the travel-related expenses of the AWB USA volunteers. Awards do not usually exceed $5000 over the duration of the project. The host institution commits to in-kind support for the AWB USA volunteer.
